How to wipe out everything in your hard drive for good

Have something in your hard drive which you don’t want anyone to see it? Something in your hard drive which will threaten your life if exposed? Sounds just like you being chased by government for keeping illegal stuff in your hard drive. Or maybe is just someone you love so much like your wife. Just kidding for making it sounds so serious. Let’s get to the how to wipe out everything in your hard drive for good as stated in the title of this post.

Here, I assume you know how to use the delete function. So does delete really delete the data which you intended to delete. MMMMM…… But did you know you can still undo it by using UNDELETE function. What! You can undelete which recovers the data you been trying to delete. So this delete function won’t serve your purpose.

So what’s next?

How about formating the hard drive to wipe out everything in it? Sounds good to me. But format function just prepares your hard drive ready for use. So format still not the best way. Now what we have to do to really wipe out everything in the hard drive. Maybe some software which will do the job you are looking for. As the matter of it, there are software which are developed for this only purpose. But here I will only list the free software which I believe will just do the job as good as the paid one.

The first one is Darik’s Boot and Nuke (”DBAN”), a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. You can read more about it at here

The second on list is Active@ KillDisk - Hard Drive Eraser which is a hard drive and partition eraser utility. More about it can be found here

Next is Eraser, an advanced security tool (for Windows), which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. Read more about it at here

So there you have it in your hand the knowledge to really wipe out everything in your hard drive now. Use it and keep yourself safe which also make sure your privacy is secure in case you wanna sell off your old hard drive for some extra cash if that is the case. I hope you find this post useful. Thanks.
